The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel will be without the services of star shooter George Fisher for Monday night’s ANZ Premiership game against the Splice Construction Magic.

Fisher collided heavily with Robinhood Stars defender Elle Temu late in the third quarter of last Saturday’s game in Dunedin, suffering a suspected concussion after knocking her head on the court.

After 48 hours rest, the England international was reassessed by Steel’s medical team this afternoon where the concussion diagnosis was confirmed.

Steel head coach Reinga Bloxham said Fisher would be unavailable for the Magic game at ILT Stadium Southland and would not travel for team trainings in Dunedin this week.

“George is under strict orders to rest until she is symptom free and as a team we are supporting her to do exactly that,” she said.

“It is always a blow to lose a key player to injury but we need to ensure she’s 100 percent fit before returning to the court.”

She will be reassessed again next Tuesday.

“We train for all scenarios so, while we will miss George and everything she brings on and off the court to our environment, we are prepared for this and determined to continue our momentum.”

Tickets for Steel’s round 11 game against the Magic are available from ILT Stadium Southland or online at www.ticketek.co.nz.
