2024 marked the sixth year of the Murihiku Tertiary Academy (MTA) Mini-bike challenge held at Teretonga Park Raceway on November 2nd. The event is the culmination of the year’s work from Auto-Mechanical students of the MTA programme. Students race against each other in a series of events, riding their own mini bikes, which they’ve constructed over the year. This year’s intake was the largest MTA had run to date, with 13 bikes being constructed by 25 students.
Trades and Technology Head of School and event organiser, Luke Mason, said they had to cancel the event just after lunch due to adverse weather conditions, however, students did get to compete in three of the seven races in the morning, providing them with a reasonable opportunity to ride and compete on the motorcycles they had constructed. The event was also long enough to crown an individual winner and winning school, which will be announced at the MTA Graduation on Monday 18th November.
