The ‘Find Your Fit’ event, held at SIT’s Invercargill campus on Tuesday evening, brought together accounting professionals, academics and tertiary students for an evening of discussion, storytelling and networking focused on the many pathways available within the accounting profession.
Career Engagement Manager for CA ANZ (South Island), Nicky Hudson, said the level of student participation was a standout feature of the evening.
“It was fantastic to see such high levels of engagement from the students throughout the event, with insightful questions that really highlighted their enthusiasm for learning and career development,” Mrs Hudson said.
The session included a panel discussion featuring representatives from leading accounting firms – BDO and Findex - alongside SIT academic staff, giving students the opportunity to hear first‑hand about different career journeys, specialisations and workplace experiences within the profession.
Mrs Hudson also noted the value of the event’s hybrid (HyFlex) delivery, which allowed students to take part both on campus and online.
“The inclusion of HyFlex students online added real value and extended the reach of the session,” she said, allowing more learners to benefit from the discussion and connect with industry professionals.
The event concluded with informal networking, giving students the chance to speak directly with employers and gain practical insights into the skills and attributes sought in graduates entering the accounting sector.
Mrs Hudson acknowledged SIT’s ongoing role in supporting industry–student connections across the region.
“A big thank you to SIT for their continued partnership and support in delivering meaningful employer–student engagement opportunities across the region,” she said.
SIT Accounting Programme Leader and Tutor, Lynley Woodward, said the event highlighted the productive relationship between SIT and CA ANZ. “We will continue working together to provide students with opportunities to connect with employers and better understand the diverse and evolving career options available within accounting.”
