Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Business L5 (Marketing and Sales strand) will have the skills and knowledge to be employed in a variety of business entities in marketing and sales entry-level roles such as:

  • marketing assistant, 
  • junior account manager, 
  • sales representative, 
  • merchandiser,
  • digital marketing assistant.

 

Entry requirements

To apply for the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5), you must be at least 16 years old when the programme begins, or have an approved Early Release Exemption.

You’ll also need to meet one of the following:

  • NCEA Level 2, including:
  • 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or above
  • 14 numeracy credits at Level 1 or above
  • An equivalent qualification, or
  • An approved Level 3 or higher qualification with a relevant pathway

Special admission

If you don’t meet the standard entry requirements but believe you’re prepared for study at this level, you may still apply.

Admission will be considered based on your ability to demonstrate that you are likely to succeed in the programme. Decisions are made at the discretion of the relevant academic authority.

Programme-specific requirements

There are no additional programme-specific entry requirements.

Language and literacy requirements

All applicants need to demonstrate the language and literacy skills required for the programme. This is normally shown through:

  • 8 NCEA literacy credits at Level 2 or above

If you can’t provide this evidence, you may be asked to demonstrate your ability through an approved proficiency test or another recognised NZQA equivalent.

English language requirements

International applicants will need to provide evidence of English language proficiency.

Accepted options include previous study completed in English or an approved English language test.

Common test requirements include:

  • IELTS Academic: 5.5 overall, with no band below 5.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 46, with a writing score of 14
  • TOEFL pBT: 550, with TWE 5
  • PTE Academic: 42, with no band below 36
  • Cambridge English: B2 First or B2 First for Schools, score 162, with no skill below 154
  • OET: Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • NZCEL: Level 4 General or Employment
  • LanguageCert: B2 Communicator IESOL with High Pass, with at least a Pass in each skill
  • Trinity ISE: ISE II, with at least Merit in each band

English language test results must meet the applicable NZQA requirements. Where required, results must be from a single test taken within the two years before enrolment.

Enrolment approval

Places in the programme are limited. All enrolments are subject to approval by the Programme Manager or Programme Operations Manager, in consultation with the Head of Faculty and teaching staff where required.
