For facilitator Peter Jones, joining the SIT2LRN team in 2013 was the perfect chance for him to share his knowledge of workplace health and safety. Originally from the United Kingdom, Peter arrived in New Zealand in 1971 with a background in mechanical trades; he’d trained at Rolls Royce. His first job in his adopted country was as an apprentice training instructor.
Over the years he kept learning, much of it by way of extramural, distance study. He’s completed a Certificate in Mechanical Engineering; a Certificate in OHS Management; an Award in Management Science; as well as a BA (English) through Massey University. He has worked as National Training and Safety manager for a large NZ food manufacturing business; as a Programme Manager (Agriculture) and a Capability Development Consultant for ACC.
“For me, facilitating SIT2LRN papers with people from so many different backgrounds and workplaces continues to be an enjoyable shared learning experience.”
Peter recently completed the National Diploma in Adult Education and Training, so he knows what it's like to be a SIT2LRN student."
