There are a variety of accommodation options for students in Invercargill including our Student Apartments.

All SIT accommodation is only a short walk to SIT, supermarkets and the town centre.

SIT does not operate an official Hall of Residence. Students who are interested in this style of accommodation are encouraged to contact one of the providers of serviced room/apartment style accommodation.

SIT APARTMENTS

The SIT Apartments in Invercargill are made up of 12 older style motel units and 40 brand new units for international and domestic students (209 beds altogether).

There are furnished single and double room options, and each apartment includes a kitchenette and bathroom.

New international students will receive a welcome pack which includes: one set of sheets, pillow case, duvet, pillow mattress protector, towels, face cloths and a food parcel for your first breakfast. This is yours to keep when you leave.

Please note that only some of the accommodation options are owned or managed by SIT. Where SIT does not own or manage the property, SIT does not accept any responsibility for the condition or nature of the property. The choice to contract to live in a particular property is solely the responsibility and discretion of the tenant.

2 students sharing each room at a low cost of $147 per week per person
Single rooms in shared unit $232 per week
Couple room in a shared unit $270 per week
Couple with a child sharing room $290 per week
Family unit $390 per week

Accomodation for International Students

Each student will be required to pay a $400 deposit and 4 weeks rent in advance.

Communal laundry: washing machines are $2 to use, $4 coin for dryers

There are families in our community who are happy to welcome International students into their home.

The homestay host will provide:

English language practice
Your own bedroom
Bedding and towels
Privacy and a quiet place to study
Breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week
Electricity for bathing, laundry and heating
Family and community activities.

The homestay fee is $353 per week.

*Internet is available, but is not included in the fee. Wifi is free on campus.

Your host will meet you at the airport and will assist you to find you way to the campus and around the city. The transport options are bus, cycle or walking. All homestay hosts live no further than 4.5km from the campus.
