SIT Māori Tertiary Education Strategy
SIT and the Māori community have enjoyed a strong relationship for many years and have now worked together to develop a formal SIT strategy.
The main purpose of this strategy is to improve educational outcomes for Māori at SIT by ensuring that our Māori students are well prepared for further study, employment or self-employment upon their graduation.
It offers the opportunity to build on the success of existing strategies, while integrating new ideas and practices which will provide a direction for SIT in the future.
It is important to SIT to give meaning to our commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi by encouraging Māori students to study and achieve success on our programmes. It is important to the individual student who identifies as Māori to enable their future career success. It is important to our community and the industries and organisations within it to meet skill and employment needs.
SIT wishes to ensure that Māori students are comfortable and confident about studying at SIT and that their cultural and academic needs are met. We also want to ensure our Māori students are well prepared for further study, employment or self-employment upon their graduation.
