SIT’s Distance Learning Faculty SIT2LRN, and Telford Campus, are currently offering free training on a range of courses, through a recently announced free training initiative from the Government.
To support New Zealand’s recovery from the impacts of Covid-19, the Government announced the free training initiative through the Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund (TTAF), specifically focusing on sectors with possible skill shortages, and where employers are looking to employ graduates to meet strong demand in those industries.
Both SIT2LRN and Telford Campus offers a variety of qualifications currently available under the TTAF initiative, designed to meet the needs of Post-Covid
changes in the workforce. The selected TTAF-funded programmes will be available from 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2022. The training covers all apprenticeships and levels 3 to 6 sub-degree programmes across a range of subjects.
SIT’s close collaborations with industry results in producing qualifications clearly focused on graduates achieving employment outcomes at the completion of their study. Combine this with the optional convenience of SIT2LRN’s online delivery students can study programmes from literally anywhere in the world and studying with SIT2LRN makes sense. Programmes are NZQA-approved, internationally recognised, and range from Certificate to Master’s degrees.
Recent Certificate in Wool Technology graduate Olivia McCorkindale said the tremendous amount of information she learnt about the wool industry during her studies had been invaluable.
Distance learning was no barrier to her achievements, with the support of easily-accessible tutors, she said.
“My tutor as well as the staff who ran my course were outstanding. They were always willing to help, no matter how big or small the query,” she said.
Aissa Santos-Querol, programme manager for SIT2LRN’s horticulture courses, said students from all over New Zealand were studying towards their horticulture qualifications through distance learning.
“We are also pleased that we have a number of international students that sign up for our horticulture courses. Since they are studying through distance learning, it gives them the flexibility to study wherever they are.”
They get a good mix of students who undertake their preferred course either to upskill, to change career paths, to use the knowledge in their own business, or for personal interest.
The organisation regularly received good feedback from graduates regarding the structure of the course because they find it easy to follow and understand, she said.
“They enjoy the flexible mode of learning. Graduates also have plenty of praise for their facilitators as they find them really helpful and supportive during their studies.”
