Part time 1 Year Fixed Term

Southern Institute of Technology is the region’s largest provider of tertiary vocational training, offering a comprehensive range of programmes that lead to formal qualifications at Certificate, Diploma and Degree levels. We are seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced people to fill the above fixed term .8 proportional position at our Invercargill Campus.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

The successful applicant will hold at least a postgraduate qualification, preferably Ph.D. or Master’s and be able to teach a range of subjects in the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (including Exercise Physiology) and the Master’s or Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Health Sciences (including Rehabilitation). 

This is an exciting prospect for the right person to join our teaching team. While previous teaching experience would be an advantage, training is available in this area with academic staff being encouraged to undertake study towards the NZ Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching, offered through SIT.

To be successful in the role you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in coaching and teaching sports and exercise, including group fitness
  • A comprehensive understanding of health and wellness within the context of Aotearoa/New Zealand
  • Experience supporting the inclusion of Te Tiriti o Waitangi practices and advocating the use of te reo, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori in the workplace 
  • Insight into ethical and cultural considerations, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration, in relation to wellness coaching and rehabilitation services in Aotearoa/New Zealand
  • Excellent teaching and communication abilities
  • Self-motivated and initiative driven with a high level of professionalism and integrity
